For the first time in its history, at a ceremony to present them with honorary diplomas, Széchenyi István University has welcomed alumni who graduated more than fifty years ago. More than 130 of the engineers who graduated from the predecessor of the institution, the Technical College of Transport and Telecommunications, received their gold diplomas at the alma mater in Győr.

In spring, Széchenyi István University launched a Chinese language course for primary school children, which, thanks to the support of the institution, is free of charge. Interest in the course has exceeded expectations, so the language classes will continue from September. Széchenyi István University has extensive international connections, and as a result, the Chinese Visiting Professor who lectures on the English-taught Civil Engineering programme, also contributed to the course.
An exhibition of photographs by photographer Dániel Havasi has opened at Széchenyi István University, focusing on the theme of two-way migration. The photographs, focusing on people and faces, were taken in nine countries, including Iran, Algeria, Japan and the Hungarian-Serbian border.

The Wind Ensemble of the Northern Iowa State University gave a joint concert with the Győr Symphonic Band, the wind ensemble of Széchenyi István University, in the University’s Concert Hall. In her opening speech, Dr Eszter Lukács, Vice-Rector for International Affairs at Széchenyi University, emphasised that, like a strong-winged bird, education in the Arts at SZE, a leading university in the field of engineering, creates balance.
The Digital Development Centre at Széchenyi István University has won this year's Industry 4.0 professional award established by the Ministry of Innovation and Technology (MIT) in the category of organisations implementing education, training programmes, research, development and innovation. The award is an indication of the high quality of the University's R&D activities, including in the field of industrial digitalisation, which contribute significantly to strengthening the competitiveness of the region.
Hungarian students can develop the technology company's new operating system and 5G business-industrial applications During the UNESCO World Conference on Higher Education in Barcelona, it was announced that Széchenyi István University, Győr, has joined Huawei Technologies Hungary’s global university cooperation programme. The SEEDs scholarship programme aims to support talent development and student research into industrial applications of 5G, such as in rail logistics, manufacturing and warehousing. The scholarship fund, worth tens of millions of forints, can also be used for student projects that include the development of test applications, including for Huawei's own operating system, Harmony OS.
The exhibition of photographer-videographer Dániel Havasi’s work will open on Thursday, 26 May 2022, at 11:00 and will remain exhibited on the gallery of the Aula at Széchenyi István University until the end of June.
The Automotive Industry Research Centre at Széchenyi István University is playing an increasingly important role in the research of autonomous transport systems and electromobility, supported by an internationally renowned laboratory background, test track and equipment in Győr and the ZalaZONE Park in Zalaegerszeg. This was recognised by the National Research, Development and Innovation Office with the award of "Excellent Research Infrastructure".
Széchenyi István University has hosted a drone competition for the first time in its history. On the track set up in the clearing near Aranypart II, quadcopters, i.e. remote control four-rotor drones, clashed with each other in an official race recognised by the International Aeronautical Federation (FAI), which was also the second stage of the Hungarian championship. The event, named the 1st SZE Cup, was a true co-production: apart from the University’s drone laboratory, the SZEviation drone development student team and the Hungarian competition organisation Drone Racing Hungary were involved in the organisation.
Five international students from Széchenyi István University received awards for their research at the recent Science and Arts Student Conference held at the institution. Four of the students were so outstanding that they have earned the right to participate in the 2023 National Scientific Student Conference, which will be the final of the competition.
Students who were the first to be admitted to the dual MBA programme of Széchenyi István University and the University of Rhode Island two years ago have successfully passed their final exams. The graduates have gained world-class business and management skills that they can put to good use in their professional careers.
Széchenyi István University has a new addition to its range of sports activities: from February, students have been able to attend American football training sessions. The popularity of the sport in Hungary is also shown by the fact that many people applied to the announcement, and 20-25 people are currently attending the sessions. This is a positive sign for the future, as the ultimate goal is to create a student team that can test its skills in the still nascent University League.

In this article, we attempt to do the impossible: summarise the most interesting programmes, recall the experiences and try to capture the essence of the festival in a few paragraphs for those readers who were unable to attend what was undoubtedly the most anticipated student event of the semester.
Széchenyi István University is planning to strengthen its relations with an Italian food company that places great emphasis on tradition and quality. The cooperation would contribute to the practice-oriented training of students at the faculty in Mosonmagyaróvár, which could also include the production of quality fresh cheeses.
Dear International Students!
Hungary and Széchenyi István University both consider it important to provide emergency, immediate assistance and longer-term support to Ukrainian and international students fleeing Ukraine, enabling them to continue their studies, according to a presentation by Dr Eszter Lukács, Vice-Rector for International Affairs at Széchenyi István University and Chair of the International Committee of the Hungarian Rectors' Conference, at an event organised by the UN Academic Impact (UNAI) programme of the United Nation’s Department of Global Communications.
Győr’s biggest student festival is already in its second day at Széchenyi István University, and after a two-year break, the main focus is back on fun on the campus. After a warm-up on Tuesday, the event was in full swing on Wednesday, and is set to kick into high gear from today, with the upper and lower floors of the Bridge and the courtyard tent also set to fill up with performers in the coming days.
Széchenyi István University attaches great importance to providing its growing international student community not only with high quality education, but also with interesting programmes. The institution has therefore launched a Hungarian Club, with the aim of bringing Hungarian language and culture closer to the participants.
Széchenyi István University, with the support of the Ministry of Innovation and Technology, has entered into a forward-looking cooperation with Audi Hungaria Zrt. and the University of Szeged. The joint innovation projects will focus on research and validation of alternative fuels, exploring the industrial potential of hydrogen and reducing carbon dioxide emissions.
The hall was filled with people and excited expectations as the latest mobility programme, unique in Europe, was presented to students of Széchenyi István University in Győr as part of the Regional University Network-European University (RUN-EU) project event in Győr.
Széchenyi István University’s Automotive Industry Research Centre gave a spectacular demonstration of its research and development activities at the inauguration of the ZalaZONE Automotive Test Track on 26 March. In addition, the ongoing developments show the continuous strengthening of the institution's presence in Zalaegerszeg.
The full spectrum of the consortium's objectives will be presented by the work package leaders at the weeklong programme of the Regional University Network-European University in Győr, during which Széchenyi István University will host partner institutions from Portugal, Ireland, Austria, the Netherlands and Finland.

"I didn't choose Győr, Győr chose me," says Rebeca Mendoza, who came to Széchenyi István University from Mexico in 2018. We talked to the now graduate student, who currently lives and works in Budapest, about the motivating power of the Stipendium Hungaricum scholarship, the international student community in Győr and the cultural differences between the two countries.
The non-Hungarian players of Széchenyi István University’s top class women's basketball team, Uni Győr-Mély Út, which is based on the University campus, are not only attracted by the high quality of the Hungarian championship, but also by the University’s international atmosphere, the colourful campus life, the quality restaurants and the proximity to Budapest and Vienna. Jordin Canada, Beatrice Mompremier and Szabina Oroszova have taken a liking to Győr and to Hungary.
On Puskás Day, held in the Hungarian pavilion of the World Expo, three Hungarian universities presented their sports-related activities alongside technology companies interested in sports innovation. Széchenyi István University demonstrated the link between sport and technical innovation. The presentation attracted the interest of several potential partners, which will lead to new international collaborations with the Győr-based higher education institution.
