More than 3200 first-year students will start their studies in the nine faculties of Széchenyi István University in Győr in September. The figures show that the courses and services offered by the institution are attractive to young people.
The priority goal of Széchenyi István University is to strengthen its international relations and thus contribute to the development of the region. This is why it joined the programme supported by the UN’s Food and Agriculture Organization, within the framework of which the institution presented to the Azerbaijani delegation its model projects related to sustainable development and agricultural consultancy.
Intense professional training in the context of an engineering competition - this is what the Audi Development Camp, organised for the second time by Széchenyi István University with the support of Audi Hungaria and AUDI AG, offers. In the four-week English-language camp, students learn from international experts while solving real industrial problems in teams and competing against each other. This year, participants will be challenged to complete a hardware-in-the-loop simulation task related to the Audi e-tron.
Széchenyi István University and the Győr-Moson-Sopron County Chamber of Commerce and Industry held the "Water We Wanted" ceremony on Saturday, which focused on the completion of the Mosoni-Duna estuary structure and the results of the Insula Magna complex water management and sustainable development programme launched last year to help develop Szigetköz and Csallóköz. At the event, the Ministry of Technology and Industry (TIM) signed a long-term cooperation agreement with the University and the Széchenyi István University Foundation.

Through laboratory visits, the institution demonstrates the infrastructure via which it provides state-of-the-art services to its corporate partners. The success of the programme is demonstrated by the fact that, since its launch in 2019, nearly 100 companies have joined the platform, which also contributes to the economic development and competitiveness of the region.
Nearly eight thousand students from ten schools in Győr and ten from the Győr area took part in exciting science activities and experimented in the specially equipped Student Lab as part of the programme launched in 2018 on the campus of Széchenyi István University, in the Mobilis Interactive Exhibition Centre, in close partnership with the institution. Children have returned over several school years, registering a total of around 105,000 visits. The aim of the Student Lab is to stimulate students' interest in science and to encourage more of them to pursue careers in engineering, IT and science.
In May, the development of a precursor drone at Széchenyi István University reached another important milestone: there were flights with a self-developed autopilot and the collection of camera footage. Video footage of the successful tests is also available.
One of the most prestigious scholarships in the world, the Fulbright has already helped several students and lecturers from Széchenyi István University to attend courses at American universities, and several lecturers from the United States have also come to the Győr-based institution. As a new step in the cooperation, two staff members of Indiana University and the Executive Director of Fulbright Hungary visited Széchenyi István University to discuss the possibility of hosting American students.
Siegfried Peinen, Belgium's Ambassador to Hungary, who visited Széchenyi István University on Thursday, 16 June, believes that cooperation with the University is realistic in several areas. The diplomat spoke positively about the development and infrastructure quality of the University of Győr.
The alumni of the TIGER international programme who graduated from the first university programme of the Győr institution 25 years ago, met again at Széchenyi István University. In her welcome speech at the event, Dr Eszter Lukács, Vice-Rector for International Affairs, emphasised that the success of the University of Győr today is based on the foundations laid a quarter of a century ago by the leaders of this programme.
The citizens of Széchenyi István University perform their value-creating activities not only for the benefit of the institution, but also for the benefit of a larger community, the city and the region. This is demonstrated by the fact that Dr Bálint Lampert, assistant professor, received the Győr Environmental Protection Award, Dr Pál Szakál, professor emeritus, received the title of "Outstanding University Lecturer of the City of Mosonmagyaróvár", while Dr Rezső Schmidt, professor, received the Ministry of Agriculture’s Nagyváthy János Award. Ágnes Bozsaky, a former student of the Apáczai Csere János Faculty of the University, won second place in the "Special Education Teacher of the Year" competition this year, after winning first place last year. The work of Ferenc Szabó, musician and conductor of the Győr Symphonic Band, was recognised by the town of Komárom, while the work of the Foundation for School Gardens was recognised by the Ministry of Agriculture.
The European Platform of Transport Sciences held its annual general meeting at Széchenyi István University, demonstrating the leading role of the Győr-based institution in this field. The event was attended by almost 200 participants, half of whom were experts from home and half from abroad.
A research group on environmentally friendly plant protection and efficient plant virology is being established at the Mosonmagyaróvár Faculty at Széchenyi István University, led by Professor Dr László Amand Palkovics. The project, which won a call for proposals by the Secretariat of the Eötvös Loránd Research Network and the Office of the Supported Research Groups, will further enhance the scientific work at the institution and contribute to the transfer of practical, state-of-the-art knowledge.
As in the previous year, Széchenyi István University is once again in the top four percent of the world's universities in the latest World University Rankings from QS, the higher education rating organisation. According to the rankings, the institution has caught up with the major Hungarian universities: it ranks only behind ELTE and the universities with faculties of medicine - Szeged, Debrecen and Pécs. The University owes its success primarily to the quality of its teaching, its excellent corporate and academic reputation and its growing international student community.
Every year, Széchenyi István University and the University of Applied Sciences of Ostfalia cooperate in a programme in which Hungarian and German students work together to find the answer to a specific transport problem. This year, the week-long competition was held in Győr, where young people were invited to submit traffic proposals related to the institution's campus.

The SZEnergy Team, a team of students from Széchenyi István University, has won first place in Europe's largest energy efficiency competition, the Shell Eco-marathon in Assen, the Netherlands. The Győri team managed to cover a world-record 284 kilometres on 1 kilowatt-hour of energy, beating teams from major technical universities such as Munich, Toulouse and Milan.
For the first time in its history, at a ceremony to present them with honorary diplomas, Széchenyi István University has welcomed alumni who graduated more than fifty years ago. More than 130 of the engineers who graduated from the predecessor of the institution, the Technical College of Transport and Telecommunications, received their gold diplomas at the alma mater in Győr.

In spring, Széchenyi István University launched a Chinese language course for primary school children, which, thanks to the support of the institution, is free of charge. Interest in the course has exceeded expectations, so the language classes will continue from September. Széchenyi István University has extensive international connections, and as a result, the Chinese Visiting Professor who lectures on the English-taught Civil Engineering programme, also contributed to the course.
An exhibition of photographs by photographer Dániel Havasi has opened at Széchenyi István University, focusing on the theme of two-way migration. The photographs, focusing on people and faces, were taken in nine countries, including Iran, Algeria, Japan and the Hungarian-Serbian border.

The Digital Development Centre at Széchenyi István University has won this year's Industry 4.0 professional award established by the Ministry of Innovation and Technology (MIT) in the category of organisations implementing education, training programmes, research, development and innovation. The award is an indication of the high quality of the University's R&D activities, including in the field of industrial digitalisation, which contribute significantly to strengthening the competitiveness of the region.
Hungarian students can develop the technology company's new operating system and 5G business-industrial applications During the UNESCO World Conference on Higher Education in Barcelona, it was announced that Széchenyi István University, Győr, has joined Huawei Technologies Hungary’s global university cooperation programme. The SEEDs scholarship programme aims to support talent development and student research into industrial applications of 5G, such as in rail logistics, manufacturing and warehousing. The scholarship fund, worth tens of millions of forints, can also be used for student projects that include the development of test applications, including for Huawei's own operating system, Harmony OS.
The exhibition of photographer-videographer Dániel Havasi’s work will open on Thursday, 26 May 2022, at 11:00 and will remain exhibited on the gallery of the Aula at Széchenyi István University until the end of June.
The Automotive Industry Research Centre at Széchenyi István University is playing an increasingly important role in the research of autonomous transport systems and electromobility, supported by an internationally renowned laboratory background, test track and equipment in Győr and the ZalaZONE Park in Zalaegerszeg. This was recognised by the National Research, Development and Innovation Office with the award of "Excellent Research Infrastructure".
Széchenyi István University has hosted a drone competition for the first time in its history. On the track set up in the clearing near Aranypart II, quadcopters, i.e. remote control four-rotor drones, clashed with each other in an official race recognised by the International Aeronautical Federation (FAI), which was also the second stage of the Hungarian championship. The event, named the 1st SZE Cup, was a true co-production: apart from the University’s drone laboratory, the SZEviation drone development student team and the Hungarian competition organisation Drone Racing Hungary were involved in the organisation.
