The campus of Széchenyi István University is buzzing with freshers settling in: the first-year students of the institution have arrived to get to know each other and the university in a relaxed atmosphere during the four-day Freshers' Week event. The event will also focus on the university's international students, who will be joined by a special team to help them settle in. The aim is by the end of the camp to create a real community.
Széchenyi István University is now offering its students a unique opportunity to participate in short programmes, including one-week trips abroad. Two excellent options are the so-called Blended Intensive Programme (BIP) and the Short Advanced Programme (SAP), which offer applicants a flexible and easy way to expand their professional experience, international contacts and foreign language skills. “It's worth applying,” recommend those Széchenyi students who have already participated in one of these new programmes.
The Arrabona Racing Team finished the season with a dream come true: the student team of Széchenyi István University did not lose its great form after the successes achieved both in Austria and Hungary, as it finished on the podium in Germany as well, at the most prestigious race of the season. The team based in Győr, together with the SZEngine engine development team, delivered a balanced performance from the beginning to the end and repeatedly overtook top German teams to confirm their position with the elite of the Formula Student series. All this indicates that besides its tangible values in the labour market, the practical-oriented education provided at Széchenyi István University also leads to outstanding results at an international level.

Communication, culture and language has come into focus in the recently published volume containing 17 studies by the Department of International Studies and Communication of Széchenyi István University. On the tenth day of competitions at the European University Games in Łódz, Poland, on 25 July, Richárd Sipőcz, a student of Széchenyi István University, and a judo practitioner from the University’s Sports Association, won another gold medal for the Hungarian delegation.
When the SZE-SAT team of Széchenyi István University was founded, it set itself the goal of putting a satellite of its own design into the sky. The students have reached an important stage in this process, as they have completed and tested the module that will soon be able to broadcast the name of the institution and Győr to the countries of the world, announcing that Széchenyi István University has entered space. Nearly eight thousand students from ten schools in Győr and ten from the Győr area took part in exciting science activities and experimented in the specially equipped Student Lab as part of the programme launched in 2018 on the campus of Széchenyi István University, in the Mobilis Interactive Exhibition Centre, in close partnership with the institution. Children have returned over several school years, registering a total of around 105,000 visits. Ágnes Bozsaky, a former student of the Apáczai Csere János Faculty of the University, won second place in the "Special Education Teacher of the Year" competition this year, after winning first place last year. The work of Ferenc Szabó, musician and conductor of the Győr Symphonic Band, was recognised by the town of Komárom, while the work of the Foundation for School Gardens was recognised by the Ministry of Agriculture.
The European Platform of Transport Sciences held its annual general meeting at Széchenyi István University, demonstrating the leading role of the Győr-based institution in this field. The event was attended by almost 200 participants, half of whom were experts from home and half from abroad.
A research group on environmentally friendly plant protection and efficient plant virology is being established at the Mosonmagyaróvár Faculty at Széchenyi István University, led by Professor Dr László Amand Palkovics. As in the previous year, Széchenyi István University is once again in the top four percent of the world's universities in the latest World University Rankings from QS, the higher education rating organisation. According to the rankings, the institution has caught up with the major Hungarian universities: it ranks only behind ELTE and the universities with faculties of medicine - Szeged, Debrecen and Pécs. Every year, Széchenyi István University and the University of Applied Sciences of Ostfalia cooperate in a programme in which Hungarian and German students work together to find the answer to a specific transport problem. The SZEnergy Team, a team of students from Széchenyi István University, has won first place in Europe's largest energy efficiency competition, the Shell Eco-marathon in Assen, the Netherlands. The Győri team managed to cover a world-record 284 kilometres on 1 kilowatt-hour of energy, beating teams from major technical universities such as Munich, Toulouse and Milan.
