Almost a hundred people received their gold diplomas in person at an event held in two parts at Széchenyi István University on 6 June. The ceremony, during which engineers and technicians who graduated from the predecessor Technical College of Transportation and Telecommunications (abbreviated as KTMF in Hungarian) over the past fifty years were honoured, took place for the third time this year.
Whatever happens during the racing season, 2024 will be written in capital letters in the SZEngine Team's chronicle book: on the one hand, two Formula Student teams will have cars with hearts from Győr this year, and on the other hand, the team is opening up to hybrid drives for the first time, so much so that they will be testing the innovative technology in the autumn. The team of engine development students from Széchenyi University unveiled their developments at the usual pre-race rollout event.
The delegation from MUNER – Motorvehicle University of Emilia-Romagna and the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia (UNIMORE) visited Széchenyi István University in the hopes of building future partnerships. The vehicle engineering professors were introduced to the ZalaZone proving ground in Zalaegerszeg and teaching and research activities at the University’s campus in Győr.
Petra Zsankó, a student of Technical Management at Széchenyi István University, won two gold medals and one sixth place at the FISU World University Cycling Championship in Costa Rica, which ended on 2 June. The athlete triumphed in the criterium and individual time trial events.

This achievement is attributed to the University's excellent corporate and academic reputation and its student-to-teacher ratio reflecting the high-quality education.
Ten students and two lecturers from the Faculty of Architecture, Civil Engineering and Transport Sciences of the Széchenyi István University participated in a recent Erasmus workshop organised by the Politehnica University Timisoara. A delegation from the Shanghai University of International Business and Economics visited Győr to establish international higher education cooperation. The Chinese institution is mainly linked to SZE in the fields of economics and law, and its students will have the opportunity to study in the Asian port city in the future, even within the framework of an exchange programme.
The experts of SZE recently participated in the Korea Drone Expo 2024, a programme organised in Songdo, South Korea, where representatives of the drone technology sector presented their latest developments. The presentation from our representatives at the event was a great success and contributed to the international recognition of Hungarian drone technology.
An initiative has been launched on a trial basis, whereby students and staff of SZE can use e-scooters and e-bikes free of charge, even for commuting to work. The sustainability and awareness-raising programme will offer this opportunity for five weeks at the institution, followed by a trial run at local companies.
The United Nations has designated 21 May as the World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development, drawing attention to the importance of the values of peace and solidarity. Széchenyi István University celebrated this with an intercultural programme. The event featured international students and alumni from India, China, Mexico, Syria and Nigeria, who highlighted the unique characteristics of their home countries.
SZE is implementing its MedTech Health Technology Campus in the former hospital complex in Zrínyi Street, Győr, the first completed building of which was inaugurated on 25 May. The facility will house a health technology incubator house, the country's first Pető-Point outside the capital and it offers health services for university citizens. On the same day, the institution signed a partnership agreement with Semmelweis University.
The Széchenyi István University and the Shandong Jiaotong University of China signed a cooperation agreement at the Albert Kázmér Mosonmagyaróvár Faculty. The event laid the foundations for educational and research relations between the two institutions, which will also include the field of food and agriculture.
The surgical robot purchased by Széchenyi István University in strategic cooperation with the Petz Aladár University Teaching Hospital of Győr-Moson-Sopron County, officially unveiled on 25 May, serves healthcare research and development and directly benefits patients. The modern device has already been used by the hospital's doctors to perform almost a hundred operations, and experience so far shows that patients' post-operative pain has been reduced and their recovery speeded up.
Széchenyi István University and its wholly-owned Uni-Agro-Food Kft. have won a total of more than HUF 1.7 billion in non-refundable grants under the Rural Development Programme announced by the government. This will enable the institution - which will supplement the substantial amount with HUF 130 million of its own resources - to further develop the Mosonmagyaróvár Smart Farm's barley and dairy processing infrastructure for educational, demonstration and research purposes.
The SZEnergy Team, a team of students developing an electric vehicle at Széchenyi István University, has once again taken first place in Europe's largest energy efficiency competition in the category of self-driving and electrically powered city cars. In the latter, they won first place, breaking their own world record for the second time.

The students of Széchenyi István University's Széll Kálmán Specialized College of Economics and Data Sciences have recently achieved several significant successes. Some of them have reached the finals of prestigious international case study competitions, while others have collected prizes at the Students' Scientific Conference. On the latter occasion, the College's programme director was awarded the prize for the most successful supervisor.
The men's handball team of Széchenyi István University, Győri ETO-UNI FKC, won their last home match in the second half and were promoted to the first division as champions after winning the Hungarian second division championship. The team members deservedly received their gold medals and the trophy after the match.
For the first time since 2020, the Economic and Social Development (ESD) international conference was held in Hungary, jointly organised by the Centre for Innovation and Training of Széchenyi István University in Budapest and University North in Croatia. The Forum oganised for the 111th time brought together researchers and PhD students from eight universities from Europe and Africa.

Agroloop and Széchenyi István University have signed a Memorandum of Understanding that could open new doors to the animal feed insect market. In addition to scientific research, they will also support each other in other areas: not only will they develop a common approach to sustainability, but they will also aim to use and expand the knowledge generated in the academic sphere for agro-industrial applications - we were informed at the signing of the agreement.
Széchenyi István University ranks between 501st and 600th place on the list released by Times Higher Education (THE) on 14 May, featuring the world's best young universities. The institution's latest success is attributed to its strengthening research performance and its close industrial and international connections.
Claire Legras, Ambassador of France to Budapest was the guest of Széchenyi István University on 30 April. The head of the delegation was familiarised with the activities of the University during her visit to our Innovation Park and also gave a lecture to students, titled “Defence challenges on the European stage: heritage and perspectives”.
