Students of Széchenyi István University’s Deák Ferenc Faculty of Law and Political Sciences once again achieved outstanding results in the European round of the Manfred Lachs Space Law Moot Court Competition: Ferenc Dákai and Rebeka Mercédesz Kozma finished in sixth place at the competition held in Poznań, Poland.

Széchenyi István University has strengthened its academic programmes through a  European Union-funded development initiative, introducing new laboratories, modern digital equipment, and updated curricula. The results of the initiative are already tangible, while the implementation of certain elements is still ongoing.

Numerous leisure and sports programmes, concerts and parties awaited the University’s students and visitors at the Széchenyi University Days. Among others, Desh, Beton.Hofi and Dzsúdló took to the main stage at the Bridge Students’ and Staff Club, while during the daytime the campus park served as the central venue of the event.

In professional football, performance optimisation, injury prevention, and rapid, precise diagnostics have become integral to successful club operations. State-of-the-art sports medical solutions, comprehensive rehabilitation systems, and individually tailored load diagnostics collectively ensure that players can take to the pitch in the optimal physical condition – all underpinned by a solid scientific and clinical foundation.

Take students from different universities, assign them into mixed teams at random, give them three days to solve a problem set by an industrial company, and present the solution to a jury of academics – this is what the International Student Conference on Mechanical Engineering at Széchenyi István University is about. However, the event is always much more than a simple competition: it connects companies with students, offers insight into real projects, and at the same time forges a genuine community.

A key element of the professional cooperation between Széchenyi István University and Audi Hungaria is the Audi Development Camp, which will once again welcome the engineers of the future to Győr in the summer of 2026. This international, English-taught short study programme will take place between 20 and 27 July, offering students the opportunity to develop their skills through real industrial challenges. Applications are open until 30 April.

The start of Győr’s festival season each year is marked by the Széchenyi University Days (SZEN), which will kick off on 22 April on the University campus. The event, open to everyone, offers a wide range of sports and community programmes alongside concerts for visitors.

A lecturer from the Deák Ferenc Faculty of Law and Political Sciences of Széchenyi István University, Lieutenant Colonel Dr László Vikman, recently took part in the preparation of NATO’s largest cybersecurity exercise, Locked Shields. The expert represented Hungary at the event held in South Korea.

The Győr International Frigyes Hidas Wind Orchestra Conducting Course was held for the tenth time at Széchenyi István University between 20 and 24 March. The professional programme, attracting international participants as well, supported the development of conductors through orchestral rehearsals and theoretical lectures, and was crowned by a closing concert.

With the support of the Ministry of Energy, Széchenyi István University is implementing a comprehensive programme centred on the development of an artificial intelligence-based freight optimisation system aimed at reducing carbon emissions in transport. The testing of the project’s results is carried out in industrial partnerships – including with major logistics companies – while the newly established laboratories and equipment at the institution provide the research and testing background.

The MedTech Health Technology Campus of Széchenyi István University supports education, research, and even elderly care in the region, and the institution places considerable emphasis on its development. Currently, investments in the second phase are already underway.

Széchenyi István University received outstanding recognition at the University of the Year Gala, held at the Gödöllő Palace on 30 March. At the event it was announced that the institution in Győr had won the Student-Friendly University of the Year award.

Széchenyi István University has recently inaugurated an infrastructure development at the Zalaegerszeg Innovation Park. The first step in creating the Sustainable Energy Laboratory is the newly completed Clean Energy and Mobility Educational Centre, which provides opportunities not only for higher education but also for vocational education and industry to explore and research electric mobility, energy storage, renewable energy sources, and modern energy systems.

More than thirty students from Széchenyi István University took part in an international short-term study programme, during which they became acquainted with the most advanced machining technologies at GROB-WERKE GmbH & Co. KG, often referred to as the “Rolls-Royce of machine tools”. In addition to professional development, the study trip to Germany – supported by the Pannonia Scholarship Programme – also had a community-building impact. As a result, the University’s Audi Hungaria Faculty of Engineering plans to continue the programme.

The National Research, Development and Innovation Office recently delivered a series of informative presentations for lecturers and researchers at Széchenyi István University on the European Union’s Horizon Europe calls. During the information day, staff of the Office’s National Contact Point provided useful insights into the application process and the details of conducting research within consortia.

Széchenyi István University has reached another important milestone: for the first time, the institution has been included in the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings by Subject. The University is now ranked among the world’s leading institutions in the field of economics and econometrics.

At a ceremony held at Széchenyi István University, the institution’s karting driver, Vilmos “Viló” Willisits, received the FIA President’s Medal, the most prestigious national award of the International Automobile Federation. Last year, he not only won in his category but also achieved the best overall result. Patrik Lipovics from Győr, who is already competing in Formula 4 this year, was also recognised.

A unique professional forum on the relationship between the creative industries and the business world was organised by the Design Campus Competence Centre of Széchenyi István University and the National Association of Entrepreneurs and Employers (VOSZ). At the conference held in the Győr Innovation Park, participants had the opportunity to listen to renowned speakers such as communication expert András Batiz, extreme sportsman Gábor Rakonczay, and businessman Levente Balogh.

The aim of the Hungarian Diaspora Scholarship is to enable members of the Hungarian diaspora living around the world to strengthen their personal connection to their ancestral homeland through higher education studies. Thanks to this opportunity, Ivan Manuel Bano from Colombia—whose ancestors originated from Hungary—is now studying at Széchenyi István University.

Széchenyi István University is establishing an automated store and an associated training warehouse at the Albert Kázmér Faculty in Mosonmagyaróvár. The robot-operated container store has already arrived at the site. By offering a new type of shopping experience, the development will help strengthen domestic digital short supply chains, while also supporting university education with new practical opportunities.

The opening event of the CASA.17 international architectural student design competition was recently hosted by Széchenyi István University. The initiative brings together around 260 students and 35 instructors from seven Hungarian and Romanian institutions. Its aim is to give young participants the opportunity to test their skills in a real-life context beyond traditional classroom assignments, while jointly reflecting on the future of the built environment.

Széchenyi István University paid tribute to the memory of the Revolution and War of Independence of 1848–49 with a dignified ceremony. As part of the event, doctoral degrees were conferred and the Institution’s prestigious awards were presented to those whose work has significantly contributed to the development of the University.

After twenty-eight years, the Hungarian women’s national basketball team is once again competing for a place at the World Championship, taking part in the qualification tournament in Istanbul between 11 and 17 March. Three athletes associated with Széchenyi István University may also take to the court as members of the team, while the preparation is supported by the institution’s lecturer, Dr Zoltán Alföldi, in the role of sports psychologist.

The most exciting scientific results today are increasingly emerging at the boundaries between disciplines, says Dr Petra Aczél, Head of the Centre for AI and Future Strategies at Széchenyi István University, who has recently been appointed Vice-President for Frontier Sciences of the HUN-REN Hungarian Research Network. According to the professor, research built on collaboration between different disciplines can play a key role in enabling Hungary to join the world’s leading innovators.

The Albert Kázmér Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences at Széchenyi István University recently presented its research and development activities at the most significant food industry event in Central-Eastern Europe. At the SIRHA 2026 Budapest international trade exhibition, the institution also showcased joint developments with the Cibus Hungaricus Foundation and LogBord Ltd., including an automated convenience store that will soon be installed on the Mosonmagyaróvár campus.

The Pannonia Scholarship Programme, which offers short- and long-term mobility opportunities, provides university students, lecturers and staff with the chance to study, conduct research, teach or complete professional internships in any country in the world within a funded framework. At the MobiliTea event organised by Széchenyi István University, Hungarian and international students were able to learn everything about the application conditions.

For Formula 1 fans, it comes as no surprise that Audi will appear on the grid for the first time at the Australian Grand Prix on 8 March. What may be less widely known, however, is that a number of Hungarian professionals - graduates and current students of Széchenyi István University - are working within the new team. Győr is therefore not only one of the key bases of the four-ringed brand, but also an outstanding location in terms of engineering talent development for the world’s most popular technical motorsport series.

The one-year, scholarship-based Diplomatic Training Programme of the Hungarian Diplomatic Academy was recently presented at Széchenyi István University to considerable interest. At the information session, students received first-hand insights into the path to a career in the foreign service, the application requirements, and the admissions process.

Each winter, the Deák Ferenc Faculty of Law and Political Sciences at Széchenyi István University organizes its one-week international professional programme, the Winter Seminar. This year, the programme focused on freedom of expression. Approximately twenty-five participating students had the opportunity to explore the topic in depth with the guidance of Polish, American, and Hungarian experts, addressing contemporary challenges of the digital age such as online manipulation and hate speech.

Sports education and research can no longer be separated from intelligent technologies, a data-driven approach and multidisciplinary thinking – building on this recognition, Széchenyi István University is launching new research projects and academic programmes. The institution is working in close cooperation with the State Secretariat for Sport at the Ministry of Defence and the National Institute for Sports Medicine.
