From February 2025, Széchenyi István University, in cooperation with Wizz Air, is launching an Aviation Postgraduate Programme as well as a Motorsport Engineering Master Programme with the involvement of former and currently active Formula 1 engineers. For the latter programme, students from OECD ODA beneficiary countries will be eligible for a significant scholarship. 

The Deák Ferenc Faculty of Law and Political Sciences of Széchenyi István University opened the new academic year with an uplifting ceremony at the University Concert Hall. In addition to the traditional oath-taking of first-year students, outstanding students were honoured, and faculty awards were also presented during the event.

Széchenyi István University of Győr is launching an Aviation postgraduate programme in partnership with Wizz Air airline to prepare students for flying large passenger aircrafts. In addition to theoretical knowledge, students will gain a high level of practical skills, supported by state-of-the-art simulators and brand new digitally instrumented aircraft.

The 2024/25 academic year officially began at Széchenyi István University with the opening ceremony on 2 September. At the event, the Student and Athlete Scholarships and the Outstanding Student, Outstanding Athlete Awards were also presented.

The Hungarian competitors won five gold, two silver and four bronze medals at the 2024 European Universities Rowing Championships held in Zagreb between 29 and 31 August, putting Hungary at the top of the medal table, ahead of Germany and Croatia.

Széchenyi István University and the St. Andrew Hospital for Rheumatology and Medicinal Spa of Hévíz signed a cooperation agreement on 28 August. In addition to research and development, innovation and training activities, the partnership also covers the development of health and spa tourism services.

The first-year students have arrived at Széchenyi István University to get in the mood for the start of the semester within the framework of the traditional "zero week": large-scale events are organised at the Győr and Mosonmagyaróvár campuses of the institution to help students settle in. In addition to casual fun and community building, the events aim to pass on the most important information, with the help of the Student Union and the lecturers, as well as the upper years.

In addition to three German young people, two students from Széchenyi István University won prizes in the essay competition organised by the Hungarian-German Association for Youth on the 35th anniversary of the Pan-European Picnic. The prestige of the competition is reflected in the fact that the awards were presented by the President of the Association in the presence of the Presidents of the two countries.

The fourth edition of the Audi Development Camp, a short study programme organised by Széchenyi István University and Audi Hungaria, has come to an end. During the one-week programme, which provided micro-certificates, students from 20 countries worked on simulating the powertrain of an electric vehicle.

On the recommendation of Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, the President of Hungary, Tamás Sulyok, awarded honours to several outstanding leaders, lecturers, and staff members of Széchenyi István University on the occasion of the State Foundation Day.

For the fourth time, the Audi Development Camp, an intensive Short Study Programme, was organised jointly by Széchenyi István University and Audi Hungaria between 9 and 15 August. The international micro-certificate course, closely linked to vehicle development, attracted 35 talented students from 20 countries who had the opportunity to learn and develop for a week in Győr.

Highly respected professionals with Formula 1 experience, still active in the world of international motorsport, will be transferring their knowledge to applicants for the Master's programme in Motorsport Engineering at Széchenyi István University. The English-taught programme, which will start in February 2025, is open to students from several continents who are interested in design engineering, primarily with a Bachelor's degree in engineering. Renowned partner teams will also help in gaining skills in the design and testing of racing vehicles.

Two students from Széchenyi István University competed at the Paris Olympics that ended on Sunday. Kincső Takács, a Bsc student in Tourism and Catering, finished 8th in the final of the women's canoe 200m single event. The canoeist from Győr missed out on immediate qualification in the preliminaries by a photo finish, but in the semi-finals she took fourth place, qualifying for the final.

Effective August 1, Széchenyi István University has assumed the management of the Győr Dance and Visual Arts Primary School, Vocational Secondary School and Dormitory. This transition presents numerous advantages, aligning the institution's training portfolio closely with the University's Faculty of Performance Arts' existing design programmes and the Dance and Rehearsal Director bachelors programme offered in cooperation with the Hungarian Dance University.

Celebrating its tenth year of existence, the Arrabona Racing Team, a student led and operated racing team of Széchenyi István University participating in the Formula Student series, won the FS East at ZalaZone in Zalaegerszeg on the first weekend of August, and a week earlier finished third on the Red Bull Ring in Austria. The SZEngine team, also made up of students from Széchenyi, contributed to the international success by developing the vehicle's engine.

The annual meeting of the Technical Committee on Loss of Stability of the European Steel Association was held at ETH Zurich, Switzerland. Dr Gábor Hajdú, Assistant Professor at Széchenyi István University, participated as an invited speaker at the most prestigious event of the profession.

Széchenyi István University hosted four prestigious international conferences simultaneously between 29 July and 1 August. The institution's academics networked with researchers from all over the world in forums on civil engineering, environmental engineering and agricultural biology.

“City&Traffic,” the international summer university focusing on urban and transportation planning, was held in Germany. As in every year, students from Széchenyi István University participated in the 27th annual planning exercise.

An app assisting anglers with an innovative fish radar and an AI-based medical history summarization tool: VRG Tackle and LifeSync Pro represented Széchenyi István University in the final of the Hungarian Startup University Program (HSUP), where Hungary's 15 most promising university startups displayed their ideas to investors, partners and experts. The Győr-based teams, mostly composed of students from Széchenyi István University, performed excellently, with LifeSync Pro securing a collaboration opportunity from the European Institute of Innovation and Technology, which supports health-related developments.

Students of Széchenyi István University won one gold, one silver, and two bronze medals at the European University Games held in Debrecen and Miskolc. With this, it concluded the massive sports event as the third most successful Hungarian institution.

Two students from Széchenyi István University will strengthen the Hungarian team competing at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Canoeist Kincső Takács and swimmer Dalma Sebestyén will be competing among the world's best from 26 July to 11 August.

A total of 4409 first-year students will start their studies at Széchenyi István University in September. In a significant number of degree programmes, the point thresholds have risen compared to last year, with some courses only being accessible with 487 points. All this shows that there are well-prepared students coming to the institution's high-quality courses.

The three engineering faculties at Széchenyi István University have held their graduation ceremonies. This academic year, almost five hundred students graduated from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Informatics and Electrical Engineering, the Audi Hungaria Faculty of Vehicle Engineering and the Faculty of Architecture Civil Engineering and Transport Sciences.

Graduating students received their diplomas at a grand ceremony at the Kautz Gyula Faculty of Business and Economics of Széchenyi István University. At the event, Veronika Varga-Bajusz, State Secretary for Higher Education, said that the success of young people is the success of the nation.

The aim of the visit of the delegation of the Ukrainian Ferenc Rákóczi II Transcarpathian Hungarian College to Széchenyi István University was to establish contacts. One of the foundations for future partnerships could be mobility for students, staff and researchers.

More than 200 students successfully passed their final exams this academic year at the Deák Ferenc Faculty of Law and Political Sciences at Széchenyi István University, receiving their diplomas at the ceremony on 18 July. Nearly sixty doctors of law took their oaths at the event.

Nearly 350 students graduated this year from the Apáczai Csere János Faculty of Education, Humanities and Social Sciences of Széchenyi István and about 100 from the Faculty of Health and Sports Sciences. The graduates received their diplomas at ceremonies held on 17 and 18 July at the University Hall.

Széchenyi István University has improved its ranking by 12 places compared to last year's results and is again in the top 400 in the latest European ranking of Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), published on 10 July. According to the detailed information, the institution's corporate perception is particularly outstanding, ranking 109th best on the continent.

The largest Hungarian delegation ever will participate in the European University Games, which officially start on Friday in Debrecen and Miskolc. Széchenyi István University will be represented by 17 athletes at the multi-sport event.

From Switzerland to Australia, 21 participants from ten countries are taking part in the short study programme offering micro credential for teachers of Hungarian language and culture in the diaspora, which is being held by Széchenyi István University. The programme, supported by the State Secretariat for National Policy, will provide students with good practices that they can use to improve the quality of Hungarian education abroad.
