Three students from Széchenyi István University participated in the WorldSkills Championships. Bianka Dely, in the Graphic Design Technology category, and Roland Izsó, who finished fourth in the Industry 4.0 category, won a medal of excellence, while Péter Losonczi was among the best in the Electrical Installations category.
Széchenyi István University is organizing a series of international conferences for Christian youth in the autumn semester, where current and graduate students can reflect together on issues of common concern and share in a common religious practice from a faith perspective. Péter Őri, a staff member of Széchenyi István University, prepared Bence Tánczos, a student of the Lukács Sándor Automotive and Mechanical Engineering Technical School in Győr, who won a medal of excellence in the Automobile Technology category at the WorldSkills World Championship of the world's best young professionals. A former Hungarian entrant in the competition, who is now a student of the Vehicle Engineering programme at the University, aided him as well.
In recognition of his outstanding professional work, Dr Tamás Dusek, head of the Doctoral School of Regional Sciences at Széchenyi István University, has recently received the Elek Fényes Award, the most prestigious award in the field of statistics. The professor at the Kautz Gyula Faculty of Business and Economics has been conducting research for nearly thirty years and continues to assist the Department of Statistics, Finance and Controlling as a lecturer.
Széchenyi István University has successfully organized the Road Safety Conference for the second time in collaboration with its partners, an event which was launched a year ago with the aim of establishing a tradition. Experts in the field were invited to attend presentations by national and international speakers, round-table discussions, debates and the presentation of new scientific results.
Starting this academic year, the introduction of a reporting week at Széchenyi István University offers additional flexibility and planning options for both lecturers and students. This week will allow more time for making up missed classes, practical sessions and in-class tests, or, in the case of project-based subjects, for the reports as well.

In this spirit, the Uni Győr WMS go-kart team was established at the beginning of the year, and its driver, Vilmos Willisits Jr., has been on the podium in six races of the Italian Easykart Championship this year, finishing second overall.
The concert hall of Széchenyi István University, the unique space of the former synagogue, is home to the exhibition "Art and Faith", which pressents the works of the Herend Porcelain Manufactory to the public. The special exhibition will be open until mid-November.
The Széchenyi István University is supporting the protection against the extraordinary flood wave on the Danube and its tributaries in a number of ways. Volunteer students from the North Transdanubia Water Management Directorate are helping by filling and packing sandbags, and providing accommodation for water experts from further afield in their Halls of Residence.

SZE Postpones Academic Day to Focus on Flood Relief Efforts
On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the invention of the Rubik's Cube, world-famous inventor Ernő Rubik was the guest of Széchenyi István University and the Municipality of Győr on 12 September. The anniversary was celebrated with a Rubik's Cube competition and a panel discussion in the lobby of the Győr Innovation Park, in the building known as “The Cube”.

Péter Hegedűs, Head of Unit at the University Library and Archives of Széchenyi István University, won one gold and two silver medals at the 14th IDBF Dragon Boat Club Crew World Championship in Ravenna in September. Following his successful performance as a member of the medal winning team, he is now recruiting intensively as a coach to introduce the sport to new students and to encourage more of them to join the University team, which has achieved good results over the years.
Taking the already existing partnership to a new level, Széchenyi István University and Mapei Ltd., a manufacturer of chemical products for the construction industry, have signed a cooperation agreement. The aim of the cooperation is to strengthen the practice-oriented education of the Faculty of Architecture Civil Engineering and Transport Sciences in order to enhance the professional knowledge of students.
Széchenyi István University has signed a strategic agreement with Bábolna Tetra Ltd. and Bábolna Brojler Ltd., leading companies in Hungarian poultry farming, at the 37th Bábolna Farmers' Days. In addition to the implementation of the University’s practice-oriented education strategy, the cooperation includes the development of a portfolio of services for the agri-food industry and the competitive sector, as well as the deepening of R&D and innovation work.
Screeching tyres, exhilarating speed, and electrifying performances: that is what the spectators experienced at the II WHB Győr Rally, a city event spanning Széchenyi István University’s campus and Dunakapu Square. The rally was a resounding success, drawing record crowds who not only enjoyed the thrilling displays but also gained deeper insights into the world of motorsport through the University's programmes.
Around 400 students started their studies at the Albert Kázmér Mosonmagyaróvár Faculty of Széchenyi István University in September. This year, the number of first-year students has grown by nearly 65 percent, building on last year's 43 percent increase. This surge occurred despite the fact that programme entry thresholds remained unchanged or, in many cases, they were even raised. Students were welcomed at the Faculty's opening ceremony, where prestigious awards were also presented.
This academic year, Széchenyi István University is launching three Double Degree Programmes with Portuguese, Indian and Italian universities, for which application is open to students until 15 September 2024. The four semester programmes include one and two semester stays abroad, for which substantial scholarship support is available.
On the Day of Hungarian Higher Education, three staff members of Széchenyi István University received state awards. Balázs Hankó, Minister of Culture and Innovation, presented the awards to the exemplary professionals on 30 August.
From February 2025, Széchenyi István University, in cooperation with Wizz Air, is launching an Aviation Postgraduate Programme as well as a Motorsport Engineering Master Programme with the involvement of former and currently active Formula 1 engineers. For the latter programme, students from OECD ODA beneficiary countries will be eligible for a significant scholarship.
The Deák Ferenc Faculty of Law and Political Sciences of Széchenyi István University opened the new academic year with an uplifting ceremony at the University Concert Hall. In addition to the traditional oath-taking of first-year students, outstanding students were honoured, and faculty awards were also presented during the event.
Széchenyi István University of Győr is launching an Aviation postgraduate programme in partnership with Wizz Air airline to prepare students for flying large passenger aircrafts. In addition to theoretical knowledge, students will gain a high level of practical skills, supported by state-of-the-art simulators and brand new digitally instrumented aircraft.
The 2024/25 academic year officially began at Széchenyi István University with the opening ceremony on 2 September. At the event, the Student and Athlete Scholarships and the Outstanding Student, Outstanding Athlete Awards were also presented.
The Hungarian competitors won five gold, two silver and four bronze medals at the 2024 European Universities Rowing Championships held in Zagreb between 29 and 31 August, putting Hungary at the top of the medal table, ahead of Germany and Croatia.
