Széchenyi István University recently hosted a delegation from North-West University, South Africa, on its Győr and Mosonmagyaróvár campuses. Over the course of the two-day visit, the institutions explored potential avenues for collaboration in fields such as food science, engineering, economics and management sciences.

Waberer’s, a company listed in the premium category of the Budapest Stock Exchange, has reached another important milestone with the ceremonial opening of its expanded service hall in Mosonmagyaróvár. This investment, worth nearly HUF 1 billion, not only supports the efficient and reliable operation of the company’s fleet of more than three thousand vehicles, but, in cooperation with Széchenyi István University, also contributes to the training of future professionals, as the facility will serve as a practical training workshop.

Dr István Peták, cancer researcher and research professor at Széchenyi István University, together with his colleagues, was the first to develop an artificial-intelligence-based medical software that supports the selection of molecularly personalised, targeted anti-cancer therapies. The Digital Development Centre of Széchenyi István University also took part in the development, with its experts contributing to speeding up data entry. The internationally recognised physician gave a lecture to a packed audience on this healthcare technology innovation at the University’s Győr Innovation Park.

The goal of the Doctoral School of Law and Political Sciences at Széchenyi István University, besides ensuring a high-quality supply of researchers and lecturers, is to encourage research that requires cooperation across scientific disciplines and to strengthen scientific activity and international embeddedness. According to its new head, Professor Dr Gábor Sulyok, the institution in Győr provides excellent opportunities for all of this.

Since 1994, Academic Day has been the most important celebration of Széchenyi István University, organised in connection with the anniversary of the birth of its namesake, Baron István Széchenyi. In keeping with tradition, this year’s event also saw the conferring of doctorates, as well as the presentation of prestigious awards to those whose work has significantly contributed to the development of the University and the strengthening of its community.

With the support of the International Visegrad Fund, Széchenyi István University implemented a professional project in cooperation with Slovak and Polish partners. The institution recently held a two-day workshop for researchers from the Technical Universities of Košice and Wrocław, focusing on the teaching of electric drives and power electronics.

Søren Valentin, Global Director of Real Estate and Facility Management of the Danish VELUX Group, recently visited Széchenyi István University. One of the leaders of the world’s foremost roof window manufacturer – which is also present in the Hungarian market – explored the University’s forward-looking initiatives and delivered and inspiring lecture to Hungarian and international students.

Young students connected to Széchenyi István University returned home from the EuroSkills European Vocational Championships, held between 9–13 September in Herning, Denmark, with one gold, two bronze, and one medal of excellence. The institution’s students and lecturers contributed to the Hungarian team’s success in the categories of Industry 4.0, electrical installation, car mechanics, and graphic design.

Passion, balance, change and global openness – these were the key concepts at the panel discussion organised by the Faculty of Health and Sports Sciences of Széchenyi István University under the title “Imagine your future!” at the Győr Innovation Park. Hungarian and international students listened to renowned speakers who shared thoughts that may help them on their professional journey and in succeeding in the global world.

For the third time, Széchenyi István University organised the Road Safety Conference together with its partners. Once again, this much-needed programme provided a platform for presentations, roundtable discussions, and the showcasing of new scientific findings by experts in the field. The organisers’ aim is to provide a long-term forum for domestic professionals, who emphasised the importance of joint action in accident prevention.

Széchenyi István University officially announced the establishment of its newest organisational unit, the Department of Defence Innovation and Critical Infrastructures, on 18 September. At the event held in the Győr Innovation Park, it was emphasised that this initiative simultaneously strengthens national security, the capabilities of the Hungarian Defence Forces, and the University’s research and educational profile.

EV.analytica, founded by former students of Széchenyi István University and partly owned by the institution, has won the Budapest round of the Startup World Cup. This achievement opens the gates to the global market for them, as they have now directly qualified for the world finals in San Francisco, where the stakes are a one-million-dollar investment and the spotlight of international recognition.

Nearly 1,200 secondary school students took part in the comprehensive drug prevention day organised at Széchenyi István University. The aim of the event was to shape young people’s attitudes, emphasise the importance of conscious decision-making, and promote a healthy lifestyle. Alongside the police and civil organisations, the University also contributed to the success of the programme, providing a platform as host and professional partner to reach out to the students.

A significant milestone in industrial property protection has been reached by one of the healthcare innovations of the Digital Development Centre at Széchenyi István University: the Hungarian Intellectual Property Office has granted utility model protection for the development. The multimedia system, created by researchers at the University in Győr, enables the live transmission of surgeries with potentially hundreds of participants, thereby facilitating both educational and professional activities in hospitals.

Széchenyi István University is offering a unique opportunity to its students: from the semester starting in September, regular participation in the “Uni Győr Joy Run” can substitute the requirements of the Physical Education course. This free sports programme supports both academic progress and the development of an active, healthy lifestyle.

Széchenyi István University’s simulator racing team earned gold, silver and bronze medals at the international competition held during the Sim Gaming Expo in Chicago. In the finals of the U.S.-based Challenge Series, competitors Dániel Oláh, Dávid Tóth and Máté Varga showcased the strength of the Győr institution’s talent development.

For the third time, the WHB Győr Rally will be held from 12 to 14 September. The event’s free-to-attend races will take place in the city centre of Győr, at Széchenyi István University, and on the surrounding stages. The campus and Dunakapu Square will host a variety of exciting side events. For the first time this year, the rally will be live-streamed online, allowing it to be followed from anywhere.

More than 15,000 students began their studies at Széchenyi István University this September. First-year students took their oath at the opening ceremony of the academic year, thereby officially becoming members of the community. A number of scholarships were also awarded at the event.

An architectural camp was held in Abásfalva, a village in Szeklerland, with the support of the Pannónia Scholarship Programme, where students of Széchenyi István University’s Winkler Gábor Engineering College for Advanced Studies built an open community pavilion. The young people of the Faculty of Architecture, Civil and Transport Engineering of the Győr-based institution achieved great success with their wooden structure, which was inspired by traditional folk style yet bears a contemporary appearance.

Useful information, blossoming friendships and huge parties – this was what Freshers’ Week at Széchenyi István University meant for its participants. By the end of the Academic Year’s biggest student event, first-year students had truly become part of a community. Alongside gaining insight into the institution’s traditions, they formed friendships that may last a lifetime.

Széchenyi István University is once again opening the doors to its popular Chinese language course, which invites participants of all ages to discover one of the world’s most fascinating languages. Children are introduced to Chinese through playful, interactive activities, while adults can enjoy an engaging and experiential learning journey. Applications are open until 10 September for the free autumn courses, which offer participants of all ages a gateway to a new culture.

On 3 September, at its headquarters in Budapest, Waberer’s International Nyrt. signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Széchenyi István University in Győr. The partnership focuses on developing a skilled workforce for the logistics and automotive sectors, joint research and development projects, and green logistics solutions that promote sustainability.

All of Széchenyi István University’s cybersecurity programmes have been included on the list of recognised qualifications and accredited international certifications compiled by the National Coordination Centre. As a result, graduates are officially qualified to take up key positions in Hungary as professionals responsible for the security of electronic information systems. This valuable accreditation not only reflects the high quality of the programmes, but also recognises the strong interdisciplinary approach within the field and the internationally significant research carried out at the University.

At the end of August, first-year students arrived at Széchenyi István University to tune in for the start of the semester within the framework of the traditional Freshers’ Week. Alongside informal entertainment and community building, the event – now a long-standing tradition – also serves to provide the most important information to newcomers, with the support of the student union, lecturers and senior students.

Széchenyi István University is collaborating with Shanghai Jiao Tong University—ranked among the world’s top 50 higher education institutions—to develop 5G-based intelligent rehabilitation and assistive robotic systems. Within this framework of healthcare technology innovation, the Győr-based University is expected to contribute by providing communication and data management infrastructure, as well as conducting clinical validation.

To mark the national holiday of 20 August, commemorating the foundation of the Hungarian state, Dr Tamás Sulyok, President of the Republic, conferred prestigious state awards upon several leaders and staff members of Széchenyi István University.

Through the USA Accelerator Program of Széchenyi István University's Innovation Park in Győr, three high school students recently participated in a sports and skills development camp at the DME Academy in Florida. Thanks to this opportunity, the talented youngsters gained valuable experience in the United States.

Bettina Szelezsán came to Széchenyi István University for the high standard of its Master’s degree in Vehicle Engineering, where she gained valuable experience thanks to the Audi Hungaria Faculty of Engineering and the Arrabona Racing Team student team. Today, the young professional works in Germany as an engineer for Hyundai Motorsport, while also sharing her expertise with current students of the Győr-based University as a lecturer in its Master’s programme in Motorsport Engineering.

Széchenyi István University, in collaboration with the University of Oxford, is hosting a text reading and analysis workshop on the Middle Bengali language until mid-August, attended by researchers of Bengali from 11 countries. The international scholarly programme has drawn experts from the United States, India, Bangladesh, France, and Canada, among others, who will jointly study writings from various historical periods and spanning numerous genres.
