Széchenyi University Honorary Doctor Elected President of the WFUNA

Ambassador Katalin Bogyay, former Permanent Representative of Hungary to the United Nations and UNESCO and President of the United Nations Association of Hungary and the Hungarian National Commission for UNESCO, has been elected President of the World Federation of United Nations Associations (WFUNA) at the organisation’s anniversary World Congress and 44th Plenary Assembly in Geneva. The distinguished diplomat has close ties with Széchenyi István University, which awarded her an honorary doctorate in 2025 in recognition of her outstanding career and achievements.

SZE researcher conducts artificial intelligence research in Japan

Dr Hajdu Csaba, a researcher at Széchenyi István University, spent almost two months in Japan. During his professional visit, supported by the Pannónia Scholarship Programme, he joined the research activities of a research group at Nagoya Institute of Technology, where he conducted research in the fields of artificial intelligence and robotics, contributing to the development of a long-term Hungarian–Japanese collaboration.

Chinese Director Begins Work at Széchenyi University’s Confucius Institute

Dr Yu Fengping, Chinese Director of the Confucius Institute at Széchenyi István University, has arrived in Győr. In addition to coordinating Chinese language teaching and cultural programmes, he will work to further strengthen relations between Jiaxing University and the Győr-based institution. This autumn, the Institute will offer Chinese language courses for all age groups, as well as a series of cultural lectures, a film club, calligraphy sessions and a major event celebrating the Mid-Autumn Festival.

Upon the recommendation of Prime Minister Magyar Péter, President of the Republic Baka András awarded the Knight's Cross of the Hungarian Order of Merit (Civil Division) to Dr Dóka Ottó, former Vice-Rector of Széchenyi István University and Professor of the Faculty of Informatics and Electrical Engineering, on the occasion of Hungary's National Day 2026, in recognition of his outstanding scientific achievements, his distinguished work as an educator and academic leader, and his pivotal role in coordinating university research with regional development.

School of Mysteries: An Educational Board Game Emerges at Széchenyi István University

A thesis by a student studying to become a primary school teacher at Széchenyi István University has resulted in a board game designed to support the development of logical thinking and problem-solving skills through play. School of Mysteries, a cooperative escape-room-style card game, currently exists as a prototype and is undergoing testing, while its creators are exploring the possibility of introducing it to the market in the future.

The men’s beach handball team of ETO University Handball Team, representing Széchenyi István University under the name ETO University BHC, finished second in the European Beach Handball Tour (EBT) rankings, securing an opportunity to qualify for next summer’s European finals in Italy. The historic achievement places the team among the continent’s leading beach handball clubs. Two members of the squad are currently students at Széchenyi István University.

SZE and Chamber Unite to Save the City-History Flow Stone Relief

Széchenyi István University has launched a community initiative to save the monumental stone relief entitled Flow, located in the former Rába Restaurant on the site of the former Rába Vehicle and Machine Factory. In cooperation with the Győr-Moson-Sopron County Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the University is calling on the people of Győr, businesses in the region, the University’s alumni, and everyone committed to preserving the city’s industrial and cultural heritage to make a donation. The aim is to restore the artwork and give it a worthy new home on the University’s central campus.
